Krav Maga (contact combat) is an eclectic fighting system developed in Israel and taught to law enforcement, military forces and civilians around the world. It is a modern self defence and tactical system which teaches how to prevent, deal and overcome all kinds of threat and attacks.
There are no rules in Krav Maga, the goal is to keep the user safe and incapacitate the threat (or threats) by any means necessary and in the shortest time possible.
Students will learn techniques to defend themselves against punches & kicks, locks & chokes, attacks with a stick, bat or knife, gun threats and many more. Krav Maga teaches the importance of maintaining awareness of surroundings while dealing with the threat. Looking for escape routes, further attackers and objects that could be used to aid your defence is a big part of the training.
Streetwise Krav Maga+ teaches the WKMA Krav Maga syllabus and more. Streetwise instructors have, and are still, training with some of the top and most respected national and international instructors in various styles of Self Defence and Martial Arts. We believe that the system can keep evolving through the collective experience of the association. If it works for you, use it!
Streetwise Krav Maga+ is taught in a relaxed and inclusive atmosphere this does not mean that the students do not train hard or are not serious, we have found that Streetwise students learn faster and retain better in this type of setting. Questions are encouraged and individual's opinions and experiences are used to test the techniques for the benefit of the group. If a technique is not working for a student's body size or movement pattern (and they are doing it correctly) then it is refined or substituted for another that has the same application and outcome. Streetwise fits the core Krav Maga principles and ethos to individual students.
Krav Maga+ [Ground] classes concentrate on the Krav Maga techniques based on the ground, with the emphasis on escaping and regaining your feet.
The ground is not a good place to be in a self defence situation, especially if you panic because you've not been there before. The sparring exposes the students to how it feels to move and defend themselves on the ground, whilst transitioning from a bad position to a dominant one, allowing them to get back to their feet and away.
"I've trained martial arts since I was 13 with Shotokan Karate, Lau Gar kung fu under Kevin Brewerton and Kickboxing. About 4 years ago a friend told me of a class called Krav Maga that he was trying and would I like to come along and try it with him? My first thought was "Why do I need self defence lessons I've been learning martial arts for most of my life?" but I went along anyway and haven't looked back since. If anybody is thinking of self defence lessons I would recommend Krav Maga 100 percent, it might just save your life." - Lee
"Training in Krav Maga for me feels completely different from when I trained in Tae Kwon Do in my early teens, because Krav Maga doesn't include Kata (patterns), the focus is purely on self defence techniques and getting out of a dangerous situation fast. It keeps me physically fit, builds confidence and self awareness. I am learning self defence, control and aggression, while decreasing stress!" - Liam
"I have practised many different Martial Arts and Self Defence techniques over the years but I think it is testament to the instructors and the students that many of those who were present the first time I entered the class are still practising there to this day. The classes have always been taught in a fun and informal atmosphere and yet the training has always been of the highest standard. I am really pleased I found Krav Maga and this class in particular." - Eddy
